If a tree falls in a forest and no one's there to hear it.... Well done, I applaud you.
  • Matt · 2 years ago
    I think therefore i am.

You, on the other hand, are screwed.
  • joyful_zephyr · 2 years ago
That was deliciously dark. So simply stated. Rocognition conditional existance.
  • Kaji · 2 years ago
I do exist. But only in your mind.

    I'm fine with that.
  • Matt · 2 years ago
What is the sound of one hand clapping?
  • James · 2 years ago
If a mime in the forest falls does it make a sound?
  • anon · 2 years ago
it does if it's stabbed in the eye. (I've checked.)

have you ever heard the hypothesis that one uni professor once put forward that 1 of 3 things must be true:
    1. no intelligent race in the universe ever survived long enough to create a machine that can simulate a reality
    2. no intelligent race has ever had any interest in creating a machine that can simulate a reality
    3. we and the universe/multiverse we live in are all a function of said machine

just a cool idea, i've been interested in it and wanted to spread it a little, get people thinking, and this comic seemed to tie in quite well with it. if you wanna know more, google it. THE GREAT GOOGLE KNOWS ALL.

I love this one so much. The sorta big brother vibe, and the very human feeling of worthlessness and lack of presence in not having attention paid to you... love it love it! It's such a contrast to the instinctive reaction of "oh HELL no" at the idea of always being watched, but it all works together so well, so concisely and poignantly.

    5 *s!

This is one of my favorites. I don't get why it isn't rated higher.
  • Francisco · 1 year ago
4.71 and thats not enough? i gave it a 5.

love the fact that unfortunate is stressed, then draws away from that in the last panel.. you're a tricky bastard and i mean that with affection

Reminds me of link, the boy with no fairy.

To expound upon what Francisco said about the "unfortunate" being stressed in the second panel: Perhaps the man had intended to damage his dragonfly after finally becoming tired of it's constant stare. Tragically, once he had done so he lost the constant recognition and attention that he'd become used to receiving which then made him wonder if he truly existed once that constant recognition of his existence was abolished.

Its even creepier if the dragonflies symbolize guardian angels.

Have you been referencing the surveillance camera players? they do similar work..

to character: Dubito, ergo sum. I doubt, therefore I am. You follow the original theory of Descartes, only changed because of pressure by the church.
  • klecu · 1 year ago
Grawk: Shouldn't there be a fourth? Just because simulated realities may exist does not mean that we are in one. That's simply illogical. Would creating a simulated reality suddenly cause all other intelligent races to become simulated?

My #1 favourite comic of all time.

The writer in me has been greatly inspired by this.

That's deep. Just look at all these comments talking about it. Now to go down the list and reply some of the commentors.

Matt: it is possible to clap with one hand. It sounds like clapping, and makes you look like a doofus.

Grawk: there is a game that actually revolves around that a bit. Star Ocean 3:Till the end of Time.
    *SPOILER*
about halfway through the game, your characters realize that they are computer-generated characters in a universe-simulation game called Eternal Sphere. Plot twists abound.

    Ian: nice end tag

    Tokay: Hey! Listen! Wake up!

klecu: Grawk was quoting someone else. It wasn't accepted as fact, therefore it is only a theorem. It is based more on probability. Think a bit along the lines of the Matrix, only without Keanu Reeves's horrible acting. Plus, I also think that it was made more to make you think than anything else. Either way, it is an interesting concept, if nothing else. Don't pick it apart.

Now I must depart to go get some delicious food-type substances. Would anyone like a cabbage? Or, perhaps, some... eggplant?
