Defend the "mean-spirited atheist" and tell Sharon it's not wise to say something positive about God and prayer, while reading a comic directly commenting on God and prayer. The fact is, God does not answer most prayers. Perhaps he might answer some, but certainly the majority go unanswered. So maybe that's what actually happened in this panel, but does it matter? I know paraplegics who have been praying for years to regain the use of their legs. The funny thing is, none of them have.

Re: Faith

...And that's when the space invaders came.

Re: Faith

... it was hard boarding up the house and leaving the farm. Thankfully, his brother needed a hand on his dairy farm and they were able to stay there until the drought had let up. And His brother and his wife were so glad to have them with them while she struggled through a difficult pregnancy that required nearly constant bedrest.

Now they have returned to the farm and upgraded the irrigation system (with the money they earned and saved during their sojourn at his brother's farm.) The farm is better nsulated against a drought and they love their yearly visits from his brotherand wife and growing son.
God is faithful.

Re: Faith

Hi Richard! I remember you from the other comments (On the page about chess).
I totally agree with you. I think everything you say in the first paragraph is spot on. The second paragraph, I believe differently than you, but that's neither here nor there.

Re: Faith

Yes, some atheists are mean-spirited. Appearing with the same frequency as mean-spirited religious people, I'd bet. The problem isn't that atheism (or religion) makes people that way, it's either fear or ignorance. In Tim's case, though, I think he's just being facetious, rather than intentionally cruel.

This comic isn't really funny. I tend to think that religious folk are quite vain, thinking that some deity would bestow blessings directly on them. The universe does not exist to support us, we do not exist to justify the existence of the universe!

Re: Faith

amen

Re: Faith

I find that atheists can be mean spirited. Not all are, but some, the loud ones are at least.
This is funny because, they get mean spirited because of loud christians. Not all of us are like those that you seem to hate so much, just the loud ones. I don't think its any issues relating to "winking out of existence," it has to do with their annoyance at having religion stuffed down their throats by loud antaganistic religious people. And being a chrisitan, I'm upset with these people too for making us all look bad.
And yes I agree with Tim, Trance, you need to think some more before you go posting comments.

Look, my point is that this is a funny comic.

Re: Faith

Good job failing AGAIN (see "rocket fuel" comments) at understanding the concept of a "joke", trance. Is it the horrible inevitability that your beliefs condemn you to oblivion, never to see or hear your loved ones ever again, to wink out of existence as if you were never there? Or is there some other bug up you ass?

Re: Faith

I like this one for some reason.
