Not sure if I understand the joke right away. They see aliens so they build a wall?
  • NSD · 1 year ago
I am pretty sure its the mars rover making statues to look like martians then photographing them from the distance
  • Michael · 1 year ago
I think that's it too. Maybe it's hoping that if it makes Mars look interesting enough, they'll send it a friend!
  • Mo · 1 year ago
Oh, I first thought the aliens so build wall too. But now not sure. Hmm.
  • Hef · 1 year ago
Yeah, not exactly clear. Not exactly clear at all.
  • Deathbane · 1 year ago
Personally, I like the thought that the Mars Rover was armed and the guys on earth told it to kill the martians so as to not cause a panic and that it is now building the cairns over the corpses.
  • Hyshinara · 1 year ago
    that's a bit too exagerated, no? :P
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
    I've added a little context...
  • Hef · 1 year ago
    NOW it's clear!
Much better, I'd vote it 3.5stars now if I hadn't already voted it 2 before. =)
  • Steve · 1 year ago
I assumed it was the rover making statues as well, just because that's the kind of joke Kevin likes to make. Tthough I'd agree that it isn't clear - the silhouettes in panel 2 are a darker colour than the sand, yet the stones in the last panel are the same colour.
  • LongoMania · 1 year ago
I thought this comic was clear AND hilarious! I laughed out loud for this one. Great work.
  • Frank · 1 year ago
Fantastic! I dunno about you guyes, but I got it right away.
  • The Buddha · 1 year ago
I actually thought that there were humanoid beings on Mars, and the comic was pointing out the irony of the scientist's statement, considering what the robot they sent looks like.
I thought the robot was just shiftily peering in the last panel.
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
I'm kind of surprised this one isn't clear to a lot of people. I guess my brain works in a strange way. At any rate, I made some more tweaks to steer you all in the right direction.
  • Sigurther · 1 year ago
No worries man, some people think a little more abstractly than others. A few of us got it, a few of us went huh. Shouldn't have to alter your vision to appeal to your audience, they're gonna come back wether or not they get the joke. ;)
  • TheOmnius · 1 year ago
    No. We won't.

Some of your stuff is ok. But most of it is like this.

All of I see is stuff people send me through SU.

Clarity is your friend and your weakness.
  • TheOmnius · 1 year ago
    Sorry, that's supposed to be

All of it I see is stuff people send me through SU.
  • Kayla · 1 year ago
Well, I got it right away, if that's any consolation. And I love this one... Spirit Rover's building friends!
  • Zexel · 1 year ago
    Best comic in months.
  • Peter · 1 year ago
I know that if I was a mars rover, the first thing I would do would be to mess with the people of earth.

    Great comic!
  • Jez · 1 year ago
Hey! I liked it! Dunno why everyone was so confused, it's just the robot's playing a trick on the earth people by building humanoid statues. Same as when I faked my UFO photos! All it take is some black paper, a window and an unfocused camera.
  • Jordan · 1 year ago
    Clear to us Canadians, eh?

I Now Understand Keeping Secrets Happens Under Kites.
  • Frank · 1 year ago
I don't know how people don't get it. In the background of the third picture, you can see the funny shaped stone mass. Clearly not a carin or anything.
  • Josh · 1 year ago
Ah i really liked this one! :):)
  • hateyou · 1 year ago
wow...some of the people that post here are idiots. Its a comic, just laugh if its funny, if its not move along. Don't try to godda** analyze it. It shouldn't even take that much brain power to analyze it....
  • ollie · 1 year ago
doesn't it occur to you that some people have FUN trying to figure out the comics, and talk about them? Perhaps you don't like seeing other people have fun doing things that don't amuse you, but I would bet that it is really that you like trying to drag down people. Maybe I am wrong.

Can I please see the before, "untweaked for clarity" comic? All the confusion before you changed it has made me so curious about it.
  • Kevin · 1 year ago
The tweaks were relatively minor - I added the words in the second panel, made the photograph blurry, and added the second rock figure in the background of the third panel.
  • Prozzak6616 · 1 year ago
Heh heh, kevin, you really hate Americans don't you? :P No way they'd know the context of this ;).

It was a "Heritage" commercial in Canada, showing famous events and such by Canadians and in Canada. The commercial went something like (I think) a guy gets injured, and a bunch of Aboriginals come along and helps him out, and while they're walking along someone stops and builds an "inookshook" (those rock "statues" in the comic) and the injured guy asks them what it was, and someone replies "Now the people will know we were here".
  • B · 1 year ago
You really don't need to know that to get the joke.
  • ollie · 1 year ago
Mind you, it does suggest an alternate meaning for the joke; that the robot was independently erecting inukshooks as monuments to it's exploration of Mars! I kinda like that thought...

plus I got to say 'erect'!
  • Prozzak6616 · 1 year ago
    I liked it :D
  • Derrick · 1 year ago
Got it right away, funny stuff. Good work as always.
  • Lyrik · 1 year ago
I think the rover is lonely and is building people.
  • Paradox · 1 year ago
It made perfect sense to me. I think the little guy is just lonely, and wants to build some friends. Poor little probe.
  • Shou · 1 year ago
Oh man, I missed it BEFORE any tweaks were made to it!
Anyway, it's perfectly clear to me now. I got it without having to read comments or anything. (But I read them anyway, usually.)

(I'd be Mr. Robot's friend, if I could survive the atmosphere.)

That's what you get for sending an AI with a sense of humour.
  • Unbalanced · 11 months ago
I don't see what's so confusing about this comic.

Although, at first I thought he was making himself friends, not tricking the scientists.
